Didactics

What does the field study?
Didactics takes a theoretical approach to instruction and teaching in order to produce practical solutions.

What questions does the field examine?
What is good instruction? How can it achieve the goals set forth in the school curriculum (Jyrhämä et al., 2016)?

The didactics of mathematics is a good example of didactics applied to a school subject. Central to it is the examination of what constitutes good instruction for learning the subject in question, taking into account the field of subject knowledge and the nature of that knowledge. Pedagogy, a broader concept than didactics, is used in teacher training at the University of Jyväskylä.
