Special Education

What does the field study?
Special education studies the phenomena of education, schooling, and instruction from the perspective of the groups whose needs are not as fully met as are those of the majority. It aims to find pedagogical methods that make it possible for everyone to learn. (See Moberg et al., 2015.)

What questions does it ask?
How do the education system and the actors within it view diversity? Which theoretical approaches, operational models and practices promote the growth and learning of those who need special education? How does special education answer the learning challenges posed by globalization and immigration? (See Moberg et al., 2015; Rinne et al., 2015; Nykänen, Risku & Pukari, 2017.)
